Let's talk about our 4-ingredient wonder: Date Bites! 🌟✨ Dates have revolutionized the snacking and dessert game for the past few years so if you're looking for an easy recipe to be introduced to dates, this is your recipe!
Dates- Nature's Candy!
These treats are refined sugar-free and just sweetened with dates – nature's candy! Dates are not just deliciously sweet; they're a powerhouse of nutrition! They offer fiber, essential minerals like potassium and magnesium, and they're a great natural substitute for sugar.
Date Bites!
These date bites contain only 4 ingredients: dates, nut butter, chocolate, and sea salt. I do love a good elevated date recipe like date bark or date balls (my personal favorite because they taste like Reese's Peanut Butter Cups but are made with real ingredients). But those recipes can take a bit more time to make and are a bit more intensive. That's where this recipe comes in, they may not be the prettiest, but they sure are delicious.
When it comes to choosing what date to use, you can get Medjool dates at most grocery stores these days, but I think my personal favorite are Barhi dates. Sometimes I can find them at my local supermarket but most of the time I get them at my farmers market. I love Barhi dates because they have more of a caramel flavor to them and are softer and sticker than Medjool dates. They're also a little smaller making them perfect for these "bites."
The chocolate on here isn't even melted, instead it adds a bit of a crunch by keeping them in their chip state. A lot of other recipes have you drizzle chocolate on top or dip each date in melted chocolate. Honestly, you can dip them. I just get impatient and never like wasting the chocolate when I melt it in the microwave. So, I just stick the chocolate chips right in! There are tons of great chocolate options, I love the Trader Joes dark chocolate chips (naturally vegan). I also like Enjoy Life Chocolate Chips (they have mini ones which are so cute and add a different texture).
The final touch on these is a sprinkle of Maldon's Sea Salt Flakes. It's that dash of salty goodness that brings out the depth of the chocolate and brings this treat together.
Benefits of Chocolate
Cocoa powder and dark chocolate have many nutritional benefits. Cocoa powder boosts the immune system and improves nerve and muscle function due to the iron, zinc, magnesium, manganese, and selenium found in it. It is also high in antioxidants and anti-inflammatory nutrients.
